Leadership
Jesus Christ is the head of the Church. At each local expression, He calls specific followers to provide leadership and care. Their primary role is to equip the church to be the church, not to take on the entire ministry of the congregation themselves. As such, Point focuses on a decentralized model.
To assist the church in accomplishing Christ's mission, Point affirms the necessity of Deacons as the "First Servants" of various teams or ministries and is partly an administrative role. Biblically, a Deacon is a spiritually mature man or woman who has been set apart by the Holy Spirit and the local church for day-to-day service as required.
In addition, Point supports Neighborhood Group Leaders as spiritual leaders in a pastoral role, supporting the church in neighborhoods across South Austin. Neighborhood Groups are vital to our walk as believers, where we organize service opportunities and do life together as a community.
Elders
Elders are biblically qualified men who govern and teach sound doctrine. Point Community’s Elder Team leads together—equal in authority and accountability, unique in function, and unified in direction and vision.
Deacons function in submission to the local church elders in regards to all doctrinal questions, following after them as they follow Jesus Christ. Exercising spiritual authority within the Church is Biblically instructed to be exercised by men alone and Point Church affirms this view. Due to the practical nature of a “Deacon” Point Church also upholds that a Deacon may be male or female just as Phoebe was named among those in that role in Romans 16:1.
Neighborhood Group Leaders are similar to Deacons in most ways, except that they support the growth and spiritual development of the church at a local level. Fostering stronger communities within the church and actively being involved in the mission of spreading the gospel in the day to day.
Partnerships
The local church was not created to operate in isolation. Our strongest partnership is the Association of Hill Country Churches, committed to reaching every person in Greater Austin with the life-changing reality of Jesus.
Other partners include Christ Together Austin, Austin Church Planting Network, Austin Disaster Relief Network, TruCare Pregnancy Center, South Austin Young Life, Austin Bridge Builders Alliance, and Akins High School.
